Program Description

The Playground Experience is a two-week craft refinement and creative business management residency is rooted in the spirit of play. The program builds up artists just starting to establish their creative voices and develops artists through mentorship, a wellness buffet, business strategy sessions, marketing support and tech workshopping, among other opportunities.

The program culminates in a self-created live showcase combined to create a larger interwoven experience produced by multi-modal artist Vie Boheme and experience curator Mike Bishop.

Created in collaboration with Public Functionary (PF), The Playground Experience was designed to strip down the art of performing live to help artists recognize and understand their own voices with potent clarity and empower them with autonomy to share their creative visions on small and large stages all over the world.

what we provide

✦ In ear monitors - a generic pair will be provided for your use during the program. Artists are advised to plan ahead and take this opportunity to invest in custom in ear monitors. Please reach out to us with questions or to request recommendations.

✦ Sheet music and lead sheets - Bohemian Way will have your songs charted during the process

✦ Dinner and snacks provided daily by Public Functionary

✦ Come with 5 completed songs - you are welcome to write new songs but please come prepared with 5 songs you would like to refine your performance of.

✦ Why do I need in-ear monitors?

The purpose of this program is to become more accustomed and comfortable with the sound of your voice. Using in-ear monitors takes practice and it takes time to become confident in what you hear in them. This program provides the opportunity for practice and play.

✦ Why might I need sheet music or lead sheets?

It isn’t always possible to travel with all of your musicians so having lead sheets and sheet music will allow you to have others fill in quickly and efficiently.

Week 1

Day 1 - Welcome, sharing of questions and visual examples of artists who inspire (So we know what you are working toward). Vie share production vision

Day 2 - Creation day with mentor chat

Day 3 - Creation day

Day 4 - Creation day with mentor chat

Day 5 - Creation day with an open rehearsal at 6:30 pm 

Day 6 - Creation and wellness refresh (sound bath, yin yoga, journal vibe, massage)

Week 2

Day 7 - Review shows, consider the weave/ space/ movement design (lighting focus)

Day 8 - Rehearsal, Design lights, carve sound, final mentor chat (Stokley)

Day 9 - Rehearsal, Yin with Vie, soundbath by MMYYKK

Day 10 - Rehearsal, Public Conversation with Vie and Ricki
